Summary: The timbers of the Steamboat Abner O' Neal show above the water of the Missouri River that normally covers the remains of the boat which sank in 1892 below Wilton, North Dakota. The river levels were drawn down to permit the closing of the Oahe Dam, recently completed along the southern portions of the river in North Dakota. The Abner O'Neal had been transporting a load of 9,000 bushels of wheat when it struck a snag in the river, sinking in about 10 feet of water. The crew escaped safely, but the uninsured contents and the ship itself were lost.
