Title: Red Trail Bridge, Medora, N.D.
Date: circa 1915
Summary: People ride on horseback across the Red Trail Bridge at Medora, N.D. Many people congregate on the side of the river below. Many cars are also parked on the far side of the river. The bridge is decorated with American flags and bunting. A sign attached to the bridge states that there is a ten dollar fine for riding or driving across the bridge faster than a walk.||When the Red Trail, later known as Highway 10, was extended from Mandan to Medora, the Little Missouri River did not have a crossing. Motorists either forded the river or waited for a railroad crew to carry their auto across on a flatcar. Funds for a bridge were raised from communities along the route; donations ranged from $800 to $1,700. It was known locally as "The Bridge That Boost Built." At its dedication a crowd gathered to hear North Dakota poet James W. Foley, Jr. read an original composition entitled "The Building of the Bridge."
