Title: Governor John Burke meets Sioux County delegation, Fort Yates (N.D.)

Summary: The meeting was in regards to the county seat fight between Selfridge and Fort Yates. The governor advised that the county remain unorganized for the time being as there were not enough residents paying taxes. Most residents were Native Americans and were exempt from taxes. The settlers had not yet proved up on homestead or tree claims and did not pay taxes. Red Tomahawk is on the Governor's left. Alma Parkin is on the Governor's right, next is an unidentified man, and then Louise Van Solen.

  • “Collection Number” searches the Collection Number field only and requires an exact match.
