Summary: Gerald P. Nye sits posed for a portrait wearing a dark suit.||Gerald P. Nye was born in Wisconsin and moved to North Dakota in 1915 to run the Billings County Pioneer newspaper. He was appointed to the United States Senate in 1925 to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Edwin F. Ladd, and was reelected in 1926, 1932, and 1938. He lost the 1944 Senate race to former governor John Moses.
