Summary: Theodore Roosevelt sits on horseback wearing his 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment uniform and salutes.||The 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry, also known as the Rough Riders, consisted of over 1,250 men. The regiment assembled in San Antonio (Tex.) in May 1898 and departed for Cuba via Florida in June. The Rough Riders were involved in assaults of the city of Santiago, Kettle Hill, and San Juan Heights.
