Summary: Vignetted portrait of young man from chest up facing photo left in dark coat with wide lapels and knotted tie around collar of white shirt. Antoine Amedee Marie Vincent Amat Manca de Vallombrosa, the Marquis de Mores was born in 1858 into a family of Spanish, Italian, and French nobility. He received a military education, and entered the military in 1880. Resigning his commission in 1881, he moved to Paris and became an investor. He met his future wife Medora, here, married in 1882, and moved to New York City. In 1882, he became interested in the ranching and beef processing industry, and struck out for Dakota Territory in 1883 to begin a western dressed beef business. He established the town of Medora in 1883. In addition to the meat packing industry, he became involved in the stagecoach business. His enthusiasm didn't replace business acumen, and he left the west by 1886. The Marquis was killed in North Africa in 1896.
