Title: Louis and Athenais de Vallombrosa

Summary: A formal portrait of Athenais Vallombrosa and Louis, Duke de Vallombrosa as children. Athenais wears a white dress and Louis a sailor suit. They hold hands.||Athenais Vallombrosa was born in New York in 1883, and was named after Medora's mother. She was only a few months old when brought out to Dakota Territory in the summer of 1883. She was married at age 17 to Baron Pichon, a French ambassador. Her daughter, Thais, died at age 19 in a horseback riding accident. In 1929, Athenais married Baron de Graffonrud, he died in 1936. She then married Henry Guerracina and moved to Argentina during World War II. She returned to France in 1950, where shed died in 1969.Louis, Duke de Vallombrosa was born in New York in 1885, and brought to Dakota Territory as an infant. After leaving Dakota Territory in 1886, he grew up in France, and returned to North Dakota in 1903 for a visit with his mother Medora and sister Athenais. He was educated at Yale University and married in 1918. His son Antoinne or Tony was born in 1921. Louis was a banker until 1936 when he retired and moved to Switzerland, the same year he deeded the Chateau de Mores to the state of North Dakota. __From Louis de Vallombrosa family album.
